We're asking the NSW Health Minister to protect the rights of sexual assault survivors in NSW public hospitals by ensuring the right to give birth by caesarean section if they choose. Every woman deserves the right to bodily autonomy; no one, especially not an assault survivor, should be forced to give birth vaginally against her will. In 2011, pregnant with my son, I requested a caesarean section at a NSW public hospital - and was turned down. I've been struggling with post traumatic stress disorder ever since. I want to make sure this never happens to anyone else. Women deserve the right to choose what happens to their own bodies - you can read more about my story and what inspired this campaign here. Women, given full information on the risks and benefits of all methods of birth, should have the right to choose the birth they need. Sexual assault survivors deserve the right to have a caesarean section if they choose.
