The Chukotka Autonomous Okrug is the easternmost federal subject of Russia. Located in the far-reaching extremities of northeastern Siberia, this Federal subject possesses an area of 737,700 square kilometers, making it the 7th largest in Russia. Despite its size, it is sparsely populated, with a population density of only about 0.07 persons per square kilometer. The Okrug boasts a rugged, arctic landscape, complete with tundra, mountain ranges, and swift, cold rivers. The economy heavily relies on mining and other extraction industries. The region is also known for its cultural diversity, with a significant indigenous population including the Chukchi, Eskimo, and Even people.
