Young Oak Kim is an American politician and businesswoman, currently serving as the U.S. Representative for California's 40th congressional district. Born in South Korea, she immigrated to the United States, where she pursued her education, earning a Bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California. A member of the Republican Party, she previously represented California's 39th congressional district from 2021 to 2023. Before her congressional tenure, Kim was a member of the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016, representing the 65th district. She has also been a small business owner and financial analyst, as well as the Director of Community Operations for Representative Ed Royce. In 2020, Kim, along with Michelle Park Steel and Marilyn Strickland, became one of the first three Korean-American women elected to the U.S. Congress.
