Wendy Maria Carrillo Dono is a Salvadoran-born American politician and journalist, known for her tenure in the California State Assembly from 2017 to 2024. A dedicated member of the Democratic Party, she represented the 52nd Assembly District, which includes parts of northeastern Los Angeles and East Los Angeles. Carrillo made history as the first Salvadoran immigrant and the first formerly undocumented immigrant elected to the State Assembly. Educated at California State University, Los Angeles, she earned a Bachelor's in Rhetorical Communication and later obtained a Master's in Specialized Journalism from the University of Southern California. Carrillo's diverse career includes roles in media and communications, such as hosting and producing for Power 106 FM, and serving as a Communications Manager at SEIU ULTCW.
