Virginia Raggi is an Italian lawyer and politician who is well known for being the first woman to serve as the mayor of Rome. Born on July 18, 1978, she entered into politics as a member of the Five Star Movement, a populist political party in Italy. After initially serving as a councilwoman, she took office as Rome's mayor in June 2016. She has made a name for herself through her advocacy for sustainable development, transparency and anti-corruption initiatives. Despite facing numerous challenges during her term, Raggi has continued to push for reforms in Rome’s infrastructure and administration.
