Tulsi Gabbard is an American politician and United States Army Reserve officer who served as the U.S. Representative for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district from 2013 to 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, she was the first Hindu member and one of the first female combat veterans in Congress. Gabbard ran as a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 United States presidential election but did not secure the nomination. Prior to her election to Congress, she served in the Hawaii House of Representatives from 2002 to 2004, making her the youngest woman to be elected to a U.S. state legislature at the time.
