Born on June 27, 1957, he is best known for his dedication to battling climate change and is the founder of Farallon Capital, a San Francisco-based hedge fund which he ran until 2012. He is also a co-founder of OneCalifornia Bank, which is now known as Beneficial State Bank, an Oakland-based community development bank. Steyer has made substantial contributions to the Democratic Party and has spearheaded multiple political campaigns, including a high-profile campaign advocating for the impeachment of President Donald Trump. In 2020, he ran briefly as a candidate in the Democratic primaries for President of the United States.
