Thomas Miller McClintock II is an American politician, journalist, and analyst who has served as the U.S. Representative for California's 5th congressional district since 2009. A prominent member of the Republican Party, his district encompasses the Sacramento suburbs, extending to the outskirts of Fresno, and includes the iconic Yosemite National Park. McClintock's political career began in the California State Assembly, where he served from 1982 to 1992 and again from 1996 to 2000. He then served in the California State Senate from 2000 until 2008. McClintock pursued higher office with an unsuccessful bid for governor in the 2003 recall election and for lieutenant governor in 2006. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government from the University of California, Los Angeles.
