On August 30, 2026, a heart-wrenching incident occurred that shook a community to its core. At Elsberry Riding and Farm, a place known for its peaceful environment and harmony with nature, a gentle soul named HeeHaw, a one-year-old miniature donkey, was tragically killed by Officer Trenton Garner. This horrifying event unfolded during a police search for a missing child, which led officers into the pasture where HeeHaw was peacefully residing.

Officer Garner alleged that HeeHaw charged at them, but those familiar with the donkey passionately dispute this claim. Videos from the incident and statements from HeeHaw's owner clearly describe him as a friendly and docile creature, one merely curious and known for his calm demeanor. Yet, despite another officer's efforts to deter HeeHaw non-lethally with a Taser, Officer Garner chose to fatally shoot this innocent animal.

This tragedy left HeeHaw’s owner devastated and the community outraged, questioning the accountability and judgment exercised by local law enforcement. There is a compelling need for justice to restore faith in the system that is supposed to protect us, not destroy the innocent lives we cherish.

We demand that Officer Trenton Garner be thoroughly investigated and held accountable for his actions against a non-threatening animal. The lack of disciplinary action serves only to undermine public trust and set a dangerous precedent for future encounters both with animals and law enforcement.

Accountability must be enforced to ensure the safety of our communities and their cherished animals. We urge the relevant authorities to see this case through with the seriousness it deserves, implementing more stringent measures and training so that such a tragic loss never occurs again.

Let us be the voice for HeeHaw and other animals who cannot speak for themselves. Sign this petition to demand justice, change in training protocols for handling animals, and to prevent further unnecessary violence. Together, we can ensure that peace and safety are preserved in our communities start from every single member, including our beloved animal companions.
