Selvena Brooks-Powers is a dedicated public servant with a wealth of experience in communications and advocacy. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Wilberforce University and a Master's in Global Affairs from New York University. Brooks-Powers has served in various significant roles, including as a Councilmember for District 31 on the New York City Council. Her career spans positions such as Senior External Affairs Associate at Peninsula Hospital Center and Senior Communications Specialist at the Service Employees International Union. She has also worked as Northeast Regional Communications Director at the same union and Director of Communications at the NYC Mayor's Office to Combat Domestic Violence. Additionally, she has held strategic roles at Brooks Strategic Consulting Group and was Manager of External Affairs at The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. Her political acumen is further evidenced by her tenure as Downstate Press Secretary and Deputy Chief of Staff at the New York State Senate, as well as Senior Press Officer at the NYC Office of the Comptroller.
