Sanford Dixon Bishop Jr. is a seasoned American politician and lawyer who has been serving as the U.S. Representative for Georgia's 2nd congressional district since 1993. As the dean of Georgia's congressional delegation following John Lewis's passing, Bishop is a prominent figure within the Democratic Party's conservative Blue Dog Coalition. His district encompasses key areas in southwestern Georgia, including Albany, Thomasville, and much of Columbus and Macon. Born in Mobile, Alabama, Bishop earned his Bachelor's degree from Morehouse College and a Juris Doctor from Emory University. His political career began in the Georgia House of Representatives (1977-1991) and continued in the Georgia State Senate (1991-1993). Bishop is also a U.S. Army veteran and served as a primary partner at Bishop and Buckner P.C.
