*The Facts:*

Chazz Jackson has been incarcerated since 2014 for a crime he did not commit. He was falsely arrested and later wrongfully convicted on human trafficking charges, despite Anaheim P.D. Detective Paul Delgado admitting he had no probable cause or warrant for Chazz’s arrest. Shockingly, Chazz’s case was dismissed twice before being improperly filed a third time—an outright violation of California’s two-dismissal rule (Penal Code Section 1387).

In August 2024, Chazz’s new defense team filed a motion under California’s Racial Justice Act, uncovering blatant racial discrimination embedded in his trial. From law enforcement officers to court officials, disturbing racial biases were exposed in the prosecution’s narrative:

- Anaheim Detective Paul Delgado and Lt. Craig Friesen perpetuated stereotypes and biased assumptions about Black men being predisposed to criminal behavior, with Friesen testifying to the jury: "I don’t mean to racially categorize, but the pimps, the people involved, are generally Black." Language like this directly links Chazz’s conviction to his race, not evidence.

- Perhaps the most shocking instance was during jury selection when Judge Steven Bromberg** told the jury that Chazz, as "an African American" and "Black," was "probably the defendant"—a blatant display of racial bias made directly in front of the jury.

Chazz’s conviction is not just a wrongful conviction—it’s a case study in racial injustice. He was sentenced to 99 years to life at only 26 years old, based on bias, not on justice or evidence.

*My Connection to This Fight:*

I’ve known Chazz for almost two years, and I’m dedicated to getting him a fair review. Chazz has spent 10 years behind bars for a crime he did not commit, with no evidence other than racial bias propping up his conviction. Meeting him through a mutual friend, I was horrified to learn about the impact of prosecutorial misconduct and systemic racism in his life. Each year, over 10,000 people are wrongfully convicted in the U.S., with racial discrimination embedded in many of these cases.

I’ve dedicated my life to helping free Chazz. But to move forward, I need your support.

King, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer, and Deputy District Attorney Holly M. Delgado replied "I don't know":
