Richard Burr is an American businessman and politician, best recognized for his long-term service as a senator from North Carolina. A member of the Republican Party, Burr served in the United States Senate from 2005 to 2021. Prior to his Senate career, he was a member of the United States House of Representatives for North Carolina's 5th congressional district from 1995 to 2005. In addition to his political career, Burr has a background in sales, having worked for a distributor of lawn equipment before his entrance into politics. Notably, he decided not to seek re-election and retired from the Senate at the end of his term in 2021.
