Pramila Jayapal (born 1965) is an American politician and financial analyst, currently serving as the U.S. Representative for Washington's 7th congressional district since 2017. A prominent member of the Democratic Party, she represents a district that includes most of Seattle and parts of King County. Jayapal made history as the first Indian-American woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and is the first Asian American to represent Washington at the federal level. Prior to her congressional role, she served in the Washington State Senate from 2015 to 2017. Academically, Jayapal holds a Bachelor's degree in English from Georgetown University and an MBA from Northwestern University. Her extensive career includes roles such as Founder and Executive Director of OneAmerica and various fellowships and leadership positions in community change initiatives.
