New Mexico Senate

Senator Gerald Ortiz y Pino

The New Mexico Senate is the upper house of the State Legislature of New Mexico, the law-making body for the U.S. state of New Mexico. Founded in 1912, the Senate consists of 42 members, each elected from single-member districts across the state for a four-year term without term limits. As with other upper houses in state legislatures and the U.S. Senate, the New Mexico Senate is tasked with the responsibility of passing state laws, approving the state budget, and confirming appointments made by the Governor. The New Mexico Senate meets in the New Mexico State Capitol in Santa Fe.
