Michael Clifton Burgess is an American physician and politician representing Texas's 26th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives. A Republican, he has held this position since 2003. The district is based in Denton County, north of Dallas and Fort Worth. Prior to his political career, Burgess worked as a gynecologist and obstetrician, utilizing his medical background in his legislative work. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas and a Master's in Medical Management from the University of Texas at Dallas. His extensive tenure in the House includes various sessions from 2003 to the present, where he has focused on health care and energy policy issues, drawing on his medical expertise.
