Melinda R. Katz is an American attorney and politician currently serving as the District Attorney of Queens since January 1, 2020. A member of the Democratic Party, she has a diverse political career in New York City. Katz was previously the Queens Borough President and a New York City Councilwoman from 2002 to 2009. She also ran for City Comptroller in 2009. Before her role as District Attorney, Katz served as a member of the New York State Assembly. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and earned her JD from St. John's School of Law. Her legal career includes work as an Associate at Weil Gotshal and Manges, showcasing a strong mix of legal and political expertise.
