As a resident concerned about our community's freedom and privacy, I feel that we must address the serious constitutional and privacy issues raised by the use of Flock Safety cameras in our beloved city of Sylacauga. This matter strikes at the heart of our values, and it is essential for us to protect our fundamental rights.

Flock Safety cameras are designed with advanced technology and can capture images of every vehicle that passes by, along with their license plates. While they claim to use this technology to deter crime, it raises significant privacy concerns and represents a potential overreach of surveillance that is not appropriately justified.

Our Constitution guarantees the right to privacy, and the installation of these cameras threatens to undermine this fundamental right. According to the Fourth Amendment, citizens are protected against unreasonable searches and seizures, which implicitly covers the right to privacy. Every day as these cameras operate, they collect and store data of law-abiding civilians without their consent or knowledge, intruding on their privacy.

The trust between the community and law enforcement is vital for the safety and cohesion of Sylacauga. The use of Flock Safety cameras can erode this trust, creating a divide between the public and those sworn to protect us. It is imperative that our elected officials focus on alternative solutions that prioritize community engagement and do not compromise our liberties.

We call upon the City of Sylacauga's officials to cancel the contract with Flock Safety and explore other forms of community-oriented security measures that are more transparent, inclusive, and uphold the constitutional rights of all residents. Let us stand together to protect our privacy and ensure a safe and free environment for ourselves and future generations.

Please sign this petition to urge the City of Sylacauga to take immediate action and make our voices heard. Together, we can make a difference.
