Matthew Alton Cartwright is an American lawyer and Democratic politician who has served as the U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania's 8th congressional district since 2013. The district encompasses a significant portion of northeastern Pennsylvania, including Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, and the Poconos. Cartwright first won his seat in Congress by defeating incumbent Tim Holden in the 2012 Democratic primary. He holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor's degree in History from Hamilton College. Before his congressional career, Cartwright was a practicing attorney at Munley, Munley, and Cartwright and served as an On-Air Legal Analyst for WYOU-TV and WBRE-TV. His political service includes representing Pennsylvania's 17th district prior to redistricting.
