The city of Satsuma, Alabama, was struck by a devastating flood on May 22, 2026, causing extensive damage to homes, properties and infrastructure. The effects of this natural disaster are profound, and the community is struggling to recover from the aftermath. Immediate and substantial action is required to prevent future flooding and to assist those who have been impacted.

Currently, one of the most pressing issues is the inadequate drainage system within the city. The existing infrastructure is ill-equipped to handle heavy rainfall, leading to rapid accumulation of water and subsequent flooding. This is not an isolated event but part of a recurring pattern that disrupts lives and burdens residents with costly repairs and significant emotional distress.

Addressing these drainage issues involves both short-term and long-term strategies. In the short term, emergency relief funds should be allocated to assist those families and businesses that suffered major losses during the flood. The city has access to various state and federal aide programs designed to provide relief in the wake of natural disasters. Mobilizing these resources will offer immediate assistance to those in need.

For a long-term solution, a comprehensive study of the city's drainage system must be conducted by qualified engineers. We are asking for a second opinion from a different company since nothing is being done from the first study. This study should identify critical weaknesses and propose necessary upgrades to ensure adequate water diversion and prevent future floods. Investment in modernizing our drainage system is crucial, and the city officials must prioritize allocating budgets to support this initiative.

Implementing these measures requires strong leadership and a commitment from local authorities in partnering with both state and federal entities. It's time for the city of Satsuma to take decisive action to safeguard its residents and infrastructure from future flooding events.

Please join us in urging the city officials of Satsuma, Alabama, to prioritize these drainage improvements and provide support to those affected by the May 22 flood. Sign this petition to demand real, measurable change that will protect our community and prevent future disasters.
