Granger's career in public service began at the local level, where she was a member from 1981 to 1989 and served as the mayor of Fort Worth from 1991 to 1995. Before her political career, Granger worked as a high school journalism and English teacher and owned an insurance agency. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Education from Texas Wesleyan University.
