Ilhan Abdullahi Omar is a prominent American politician and member of the Democratic Party, serving as the U.S. Representative for Minnesota's 5th congressional district since 2019. Born in 1982, Omar has been a trailblazer in politics, known for her advocacy on women's rights and various civic issues. Before her tenure in Congress, she was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019, representing a portion of Minneapolis. Her district encompasses all of Minneapolis and its nearby suburbs. Omar is affiliated with the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from North Dakota State University and has held various roles including Campaign Manager, Policy Advisor, and Community Nutrition Educator.
