Growing up, East Park was the place where I spent countless weekends playing with friends, attending community events, and enjoying the green spaces with my family. It is not just a park; it is the heart of our community, a symbol of our shared identity, and a repository of treasured memories for countless residents like myself.

East Park, located in the heart of our beloved neighborhood, has been a landmark and gathering place for our community for decades. Its name carries historical significance and reflects the essence of our community's culture and heritage. For many families on the East Side, it serves as a backdrop for pivotal moments in life from children's birthday parties to summer picnics, and community festivals that bring us all together.

Recently, there have been discussions about changing its name, a move that would not only erase a significant piece of our neighborhood's history but also disrupt the unity and identity that this park has fostered among residents. Such an action would not only disregard the overwhelming sentimental value this park holds but would also disavow the stories of those who have been a part of this community for generations.

According to a survey conducted by our local historians, the name 'East Park' can be traced back over fifty years, indicating its long-standing presence and influence in our neighborhood's evolution. Changing the name undermines the park's role as a historical pillar in the community, a role it has fulfilled by hosting annual events and serving as an inclusive space for children and adults alike.

We understand that naming places may need to reflect contemporary values and goals, and therefore we propose an alternative solution: acknowledging the park's historical importance. Rather than changing an established identity, let's enhance it with commemorative plaques and information boards that tell the stories of East Park both old and new.

We implore city officials and decision makers to listen to our concerns and understand the deep emotional connection that ties us to East Park. By preserving its name, we preserve the spirit of our community and honor the tradition and values that define our neighborhood.

Join us in asking decision-makers to keep the beloved name for East Park. Your signature is a step towards preserving part of the fabric that makes our community whole. Please sign this petition to show your support for maintaining the heritage and identity of our cherished East Park.
