The Government of the Philippines operates as a democratic republic where the President functions as both the head of state and the head of government. It is comprised of three main branches: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. The Executive branch is led by the President, vice-president, and the cabinet. The Legislative branch consists of the bicameral Congress, made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives. Lastly, the Judicial branch, which includes the Supreme Court and lower courts, interprets the country's laws. The Philippines also follows a multi-party system, and its government structure is based on legal codes inherited from Spain and the United States, and further established through the 1987 constitution.
