Government of Maharashtra

The Government of Maharashtra, established as per the Constitutional provisions of India, is the supreme governing authority in the state of Maharashtra, Mumbai being its capital. It consists of an executive branch, led by the Governor, who is the constitutional head, and the Chief Minister, who is the elected head of the government. The government also comprises a judiciary, and a bicameral state legislature with the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) and the Maharashtra Legislative Council (Vidhan Parishad). Its primary functions involve upholding law and order, implementing developmental schemes, and administrating the day-to-day functioning of the state.
