Emiljana Ulaj is currently a politician and an elected official, serving as a member of the Westchester County Board of Legislators. She was elected in November 2023 and officially sworn into office in January 2024, representing District 9, which includes parts of Cortlandt and Ossining, as well as several villages. Before her election, Ulaj had a robust background in public service and advocacy. She is a union organizer for the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), the same union that supported her family when they immigrated to the United States after fleeing Albania during the civil war in 1997. Her previous roles include serving as Director of Communications & Strategic Planning for State Senator Shelley B. Mayer, Communications Specialist for SEIU Local 32BJ, and Regional Political Organizer for NYSUT. Additionally, she was elected to the New York State Democratic Party State Committee for Assembly District 95
