Deborah Ann Stabenow, born in 1950, is a prominent American politician and social worker. She has been serving as the senior United States senator from Michigan since 2001, marking her as the first woman to hold this position in the state following her victory in the 2000 election. A dedicated member of the Democratic Party, Stabenow has a rich political history, having served in various capacities including as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1997 to 2001 and as a member of both the Michigan House of Representatives and State Senate. Her early political career included a role as a county commissioner. A Michigan State University alumna, she holds both a Bachelor's and Master's degree. Over the years, Stabenow has also contributed as the U.S. Senate Democratic Conference Secretary and founded the Michigan Leadership Institute.
