Darrell Steven Steinberg is an American politician and attorney affiliated with the Democratic Party. Born in 1959, he has had a distinguished career in public service. Steinberg served as the 56th mayor of Sacramento, California, from 2016 to 2024, after being elected on June 7, 2016. Prior to his mayoral tenure, he was a prominent figure in the California State Senate, where he held the position of Senate President pro Tempore and was the leader of the majority party from 2008 to 2014. His political career began in the California State Assembly, where he served as a member from 1998 to 2004.
