Congreso Nacional

The Congreso Nacional is the legislative branch of the government of Chile. Comprising of two chambers, the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, it is located in Valparaíso, about 140 kilometers west of the capital, Santiago. It is responsible for creating laws, revising and amending the constitution, and supervising the actions of the government. Originally founded in Santiago in 1811, the Congress was moved to Valparaíso in 1990 to decentralize the country's institutions. Today, the building is regarded as a significant historical landmark representative of Chile’s democracy.
