The Congreso de Diputados, or the Congress of Deputies, is one of the two houses of the Spanish Parliament, the Cortes Generales. Comprising 350 members who are elected by popular vote, this lower house of parliament represents the Spanish people. The members, known as 'diputados', serve four-year terms. The Congress of Deputies is responsible for passing laws, approving the budget, and controlling the actions of the government through various mechanisms such as question times and debates. Its President, or Speaker, holds a significant role in the legislative process of Spain.
