Clay Higgins is an American politician and reserve law enforcement officer from Louisiana, affiliated with the Republican Party. He serves as the U.S. Representative for Louisiana's 3rd congressional district, a position he has held since 2017. This district encompasses key areas such as Lafayette, Lake Charles, and New Iberia. Higgins secured his congressional seat by winning a runoff election against Scott Angelle on December 10, 2016. Before his tenure in Congress, Higgins had an extensive career in law enforcement, serving as a sheriff from 2008 to 2016, and held various roles such as Deputy Marshal in Lafayette and Police Officer in Port Barre. He also worked as Director of Financial Services at Primerica. Higgins holds a Bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University and served as a Military Police Officer in the U.S. Army.
