Cam Ward is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey goaltender, who played majority of his career in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Carolina Hurricanes. Born on February 29, 1984, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, he was drafted by the Hurricanes in the first round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. In his debut season, Ward helped lead the Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup, earning his place as a vital player in the team. Ward marked several milestones throughout his career, including being named a recipient of the Conn Smythe Trophy, given to the most valuable player during the Stanley Cup playoffs. He also achieved the distinction of being the Carolina Hurricanes' all-time leader in wins, shutouts, and games played by a goalie.
