Living in Leland, North Carolina, I'm faced with a challenge that many of my fellow skaters share: having no local skatepark. Each time I want to indulge in my passion for skateboarding, I have to travel all the way to Wilmington just to find a suitable place to skate. This not only takes away from valuable skating time but also adds unnecessary travel expenses.

Leland is a growing community with many young and enthusiastic skateboarders eager to practice their sport. However, without a local skatepark, we're deprived of a safe and designated area to hone our skills, socialize, and build a community. Currently, many of us are forced to skate in public areas where we risk being fined or worse, injuring ourselves without the proper facilities.

The benefits of building a skatepark in Leland are immense. It would provide a safe environment for skaters of all ages, encouraging physical activity and reducing the need for long commutes to Wilmington. Skateparks have been shown to promote community engagement and could serve as a hub for local events or competitions. This investment would not only benefit skateboarders but also the broader community through increased tourism and business for nearby shops.

According to the Skatepark Project, skateboarding is one of the fastest-growing sports globally, and skateparks contribute positively to the mental and physical health of those who use them. The demand for skateparks is high, with many cities noting significant drops in skateboarding-related injuries when dedicated parks are available.

Leland has an opportunity to embrace this growth and support its youth by building a skatepark. A suitable location, such as one of the local parks, could serve as the perfect spot for a new skatepark, providing a central, convenient area for the community.
