Beto O'Rourke is an American politician who became a household name during his spirited but unsuccessful 2018 bid to unseat Texas Senator Ted Cruz. Born Robert Francis O'Rourke in 1972, the El Paso native, better known as "Beto," is known for his energetic campaign style and progressive policy positions. Prior to his Senate race, O'Rourke served three terms in the House of Representatives, representing Texas's 16th Congressional District. Before his political career, O'Rourke co-founded a technology company and played in a punk rock band. Despite his loss in the Senate race, he remains a prominent figure in the Democratic Party and briefly pursued the Democratic nomination for the 2020 Presidential election.
