Ben Ray Luján is a prominent American politician serving as the junior United States Senator from New Mexico since 2021. A member of the Democratic Party, Luján previously represented New Mexico's 3rd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2009 to 2021. During his tenure in the House, he held notable leadership roles, including Assistant Speaker from 2019 to 2021. Prior to his congressional service, Luján was a member of the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission from 2005 to 2008, where he also served as chairman. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from New Mexico Highlands University. Luján's career also includes roles as Director of Administrative Services and Chief Financial Officer at New Mexico Cultural Affairs, and Deputy State Treasurer in Arizona.
