Barbara Muhammad Sharief is an American politician and nurse serving as a member of the Florida Senate since 2024. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Sharief has an extensive background in public service and healthcare, having previously served as a Broward County Commissioner from 2010 to 2021. During her tenure, she made history as the county's first African-American female mayor, serving from 2013 to 2014 and again from 2016 to 2017. She also held roles as a Miramar City Commissioner and Vice Mayor. Sharief's educational achievements include an Associate's in Nursing from Miami Dade College, a Bachelor's and Master's in Nursing from Florida International University, and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Wilkes University. She is the President and CEO of Dr. Barbara Sharief DNP, Inc., and has held significant roles in healthcare administration, including President/CEO at South Florida Pediatric Homecare Inc.
