The Baltimore City Council is the official legislative body of the city of Baltimore in Maryland, United States. Composed of 14 members elected by district and a president elected at-large, the Council plays a significant role in the city's governance including creating and voting on proposed laws, overseeing city agencies, advocating for the community, and approving the city's budget. Each member serves a term of four years, and they have the power to investigate city agencies and conduct performance audits. In addition, the Council checks the mayor's power by having the authority to override a veto.
