Ash Kalra is a Canadian-American politician who has been serving as a member of the California State Assembly since 2016, representing the Democratic Party. Prior to his assembly role, he was a member of the San Jose City Council from 2008 to 2016. Kalra has an extensive academic background, including a Bachelor's degree in Communications from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University. In addition to his political career, he has worked as an attorney at the Santa Clara Public Defender’s Office and taught as a professor at both San Jose State University and Lincoln Law School of San Jose. His roles have also included Planning Commissioner at San Jose City and Assembly Member for District 25 in the California State Assembly.
