Anna M. Kaplan is an American attorney and politician serving as the New York State Senator for New York's 7th District. She was first elected to this role in 2018. Born in Tabriz, Iran, Kaplan immigrated to the United States as a child, thus becoming the first Iranian-American to serve in the New York State Legislature. Her legislative focus includes affordable housing, improving education systems, environmental conservation, and advocating for women's rights. Prior to her state legislature role, Kaplan served a decade-long tenure as a Councilwoman for the Town of North Hempstead, where she gained significant recognition for her work on environmental and community outreach initiatives.
