American Medical Association

The American Medical Association (AMA) is a professional organization for physicians and medical students in the United States. Established in 1847, its primary aim is to promote the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health. The AMA not only serves as an advocate for physicians and the standards of the medical profession; it also develops and promotes standards in medical practice, research and education. The association publishes the influential Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), advocating for public health-related legislative matters and establishing ethical guidelines for practicing physicians.
