The Athens Promise
The Issue
A collective commitment to strengthening the meetings and events industry
The global meetings and events industry drives economic progress, advances professions, accelerates innovation and connects people. It creates jobs, strengthens communities and destinations, and delivers lasting value far beyond the event itself.
Yet this contribution is not always fully recognised, understood or respected by governments, media and other influencing bodies.
The Athens Promise is a global industry pledge and a joint initiative of IAPCO, AIPC, AMCI and PCMA to help change that.
The Athens Promise was born at the IAPCO Annual Meeting & General Assembly 2026 in Athens, where the four organisations joined leaders from across the international meetings and events community around a shared conviction: our industry must speak with greater clarity, confidence and coordination about the value it creates.
The strength of The Athens Promise lies in the collective power of our global community. Project managers, exhibition directors, registration professionals, logistics coordinators, venue teams, association professionals, suppliers and organisers all shape how our industry is understood.
When these voices come together, they can strengthen recognition of the meetings and events industry in local communities, national conversations and international policy discussions.
By signing The Athens Promise, you are supporting:
- Stronger advocacy for the meetings and events industry.
- Greater recognition and respect for the value our sector creates.
- Clearer and more coordinated industry messaging.
- Locally driven engagement with governments, media and influencing bodies.
- A stronger collective voice for meetings and events worldwide.
Every signature adds weight to our collective voice and momentum to meaningful local action.
