As a concerned citizen who believes in stronger conflict resolution, I have witnessed the effect of street fights on participants and bystanders alike. These violent confrontations bring about many injuries, and in some cases, even result in deaths. In the U.S. alone, an estimated 113,000 people were involved in street fights in 2018 ("Bureau of Justice Statistics") burgeoning dire public safety issues.

In a bid to reduce this statistic and channel these confrontations into a more controlled environment, we propose the legalization of consensual duels wherein all parties involved agree prior and obtain a permit two weeks in advance in designated safe zones. This setup, while seemingly unconventional, would ensure that duly regulated due process is followed, reducing the risk of unforeseen hazards to bystanders or property damage.

Moreover, in these designated zones, the likelihood of intervention of medical personnel in case of serious injuries could be prompt, potentially saving lives and limiting the extent of harm done.

In a world that continually evolves, our methods to resolve conflict require evolution as well. Legalising and regulating consensual duels could what that evolvement looks like, fostering controlled environments which do not endanger people and property.
