Petition to Office of the Secretary of Higher Education, New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority, Dr. Lamont Repollet, Governor Phil Murphy

    Save Kean Performing Arts Programs!

The Kean Board of Trustees Resolution is initiating the elimination of the Music Conservatory and Theater Education, among others. All of this in addition to the elimination of Art History. There are numerous misrepresentations in this secretly conceived document. Is this a brazen and cynical use of the tragic circumstances of the COVID-19 crisis to attack the arts at Kean? You decide. There is hope. We are extremely excited and encouraged that Dr. Lamont Repollet, the current Commissioner of Education for the State of NJ, will be arriving on campus on July 1 to start a new era of openness, growth and vision for Kean University. Dr. Repollet has a distinguished career in education and understands the value of the diversity and inclusiveness that is Kean. Please join us in directing your positive appeals to our President-elect and his colleagues in Trenton, including the Governor's Office. On behalf of the Music Conservatory: In the resolution, it is falsely claimed that our Kean Music degrees attract 1-4 students per year. For decades, the freshman class has consistently been between 15-25, resulting in a cohesive and effective, yet modest-sized program. Our alumni go on to the finest graduate schools such as the Peabody Conservatory of Music and the Manhattan School of Music, and they win recognition for their teaching---they are some of the shining stars of the NJ Public School system. False claims were also made about the financial viability of the Conservatory. With over 60 majors (and serving over 600 non-Majors), Music pays for itself in financial and, more importantly, other intangible ways in its contribution to campus and local community culture—all for less than 1% of Kean’s total operating budget. Kean University has contacted incoming freshmen of the Music Conservatory and told them they can not attend Kean University, unless they switch programs! Petition to The City of Toronto

Stop Action Bronson from Performing at Yonge and Dundas Square

Action bronson glorifies gang-raping and murdering women. It is an insult to the people of Toronto for NXNE, Now Magazine, Vans Footwear, and the City of Toronto to be featuring an artist on public property whose lyrics are as follows: "Then dig your shorty out cuz I geeked her up on mollyHave her eating dick, no need for seasoningIf seven dudes are in the room then she's pleasing themLike a trooper. Hit her in the pooper. Throw her in the showerThen I take her out to Lupa I'm kinky, I'll hit it even if it's stinky Put em in the shower, make the pussy brand new Ran through. Give 'em money what I can't do Stuff her lunchbox & burn her with the candle" The lyrics above, from the song titled "Consensual Rape", are hate speech. Although many in the Hip Hop community and music industry may be aware of Action Bronson's violent misogyny, many others remain unaware of his history of recording music that brags about gang-raping and murdering women. We are petitioning to have this artist removed from the line-up of this show, on the grounds that he produces hate speech. A musician who glorifies rape and violence against women should not be invited to perform at a public space in our city. Also attached is a video in which the artist cooks a meal over a woman's dead body, rolls her up in a carpet, throws her in his trunk, and proceeds to violently stab her when he discovers she's still alive (trigger warning, obviously): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPCQgzA1cnUPLEASE SIGN AND SHARE WIDELY!

Close laboratory performing "barbaric" tests on animals kept in "squalid" conditions.

On the 15th October 2019 The Guardian newspaper reported that LPT Laboratory of Pharmacology and Toxicology GmbH & Co. KG Hamburg, Germany "subjected monkeys to barbaric treatment and kept animals in squalid conditions". "Undercover footage at the Hamburg Laboratory of Pharmacology and Toxicology (LPT) published by Cruelty Free International and Soko Tierschutz showed monkeys being handled "violently" by technicians. Some of the monkeys appeared to be alone in metal cages measuring less than a cubic meter and are seen spinning in circles, indicating high levels of distress. Dogs are pictured laying in what seemed to be their own blood and faeces. "  Kate Willett, of Humane Society International, said the use of restraints was "barbaric" and described the conditions animals were kept in as "appalling". "The technicians are treating the animals violently," she said. “This kind of treatment is ethically insupportable and quite possibly illegal. Each country develops its own animal care guidelines, but these are appalling conditions. Any data collected from the animals would be "virtually useless", she said, since their physiology would have been altered by the stresses they were experiencing. "It's time for this type of test to be relegated to the history bin," she added. "There are new, non-animal methodologies available for safety testing, to see this type of abuse going on in the name of science in the 21st century is unforgivable". The Guardian reported that "since 2015, nine inspections have taken place at the facility, seven of which were unannounced. One unannounced visit took place on 8 October when evidence of the abuse was reported to authorities, and another a week later. Inspectors observed that 44 monkeys were kept “in far too small cages” and reported “long-term harm and considerable suffering”. Cruelty Free International said the conditions “clearly breach” minimum EU animal welfare requirements and called for the closure of the facility. “By failing to adopt methods that could reduce the suffering and stress experienced by the monkeys, dogs and cats, LPT are falling short of the three Rs (replacement, reduction and refinement) mandatory under EU and German legislation,” a spokesperson said. “This cannot be tolerated, and we are calling for this laboratory to be closed and [for] a full investigation by the German authorities.” Soko Tierschutz, a charity campaigning for animal rights, said the footage demonstrated a “horrendous mixture of suffering and cruelty” and that the practices breached German and EU legislation. “It is unthinkable that this should be happening in a country that has animal protection in its constitution,” said the charity’s Friedrich Mülln. “We call on the German government to take immediate action to close LPT and to end these cruel and outdated poisoning tests.” EU directives state that animals which are not naturally solitary should not be individually housed and must be provided with sufficient space to allow for “a wide range of normal behaviour”. In July the European commission said there were “numerous failings” in German domestic law regarding the minimisation of the number of animals used in experiments and called on the country to “correctly enact” EU directives".
