Please stop applying toxic pesticides to Wilsonville!

Did you know that Wilsonville's parks, athletic fields, schools, and Villebois Arbor HOA community is sprayed with TOXIC pesticides?  Setting aside public health considerations, is the City of Wilsonville prepared for the potential financial and legal liabilities related to allowing a known carcinogen to be applied in the city's playgrounds and parks exposing the most at risk population - particularly when this is to be done for purely cosmetic reasons? In addition to our schools the vast majority of the areas treated with pesticides are used by children, that's why we are asking our school district and Wilsonville’s City leaders to make our children’s health their priority over weed control.   Hazardous exposure can be accumulative and isn’t limited to contact with land: It occurs through air and water, too, as a pesticide application moves off the treated site and spreads in air currents and runoff into neighboring properties and waterways. During the 2016-2017 reporting year, the City applied: Roundup Pro (Glyphosate), Speed Zone ( Active Ingredient 2,4-D); and Pendulum 2G (Active Ingredient Pendimethalin)  just to name a few. -This information was extracted from the Annual Stormwater Permit Report that is submitted to Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. During the 2017-2018 reporting year, the West Linn- Wilsonville school district applied: Round Up Pro Max (Glyphosate) for weed abatement and Speedzone (Dicamba and 2,4-D) on the turf field as well as landscape grass areas to remove clover.  Villebois Arbor HOA Landscape Company uses Ranger Pro (Active Ingredient Glyphosate) to kill weeds and Wisdom TC Flowable (Active Ingredient Bifenthrin) used for control of the European Crane Fly. The American Academy of Pediatrics says that there is no safe level of pesticide exposure for children. Pesticides are toxic chemicals - poisons created to kill. They are dangerous for all living things, including adults and pregnant women, and are particularly dangerous for a child’s developing organ systems. “The major challenge with showing that a chemical causes cancer in humans [as opposed to animals] is that the cancer typically develops many years after exposure.” - Non Toxic Irvine advisor, Dr. Bruce Blumberg, PhD. UCI Professor of Developmental and Cell Biology, and Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences "By allowing children to be exposed to toxins or chemicals of unknown toxicity, we are unwittingly using our children in a massive experiment," - Non Toxic Irvine advisor, Bruce  Lanphear, Professor of Health Sciences, Simon Fraser University, Canada In March 2015, International Agency for Research on Cancer, a World Health Organization declared that glyphosate, the active ingredient in RoundUp, probably causes cancer in humans. Despite this grave warning, the City of Wilsonville, our School District, and HOA landscaping company continue to spray RoundUp in the places where our children play. 2,4-D is one of the key ingredients in Agent Orange. Scientific studies show that 2,4-D applied to lawns drift and is tracked indoors where it settles in dust, air, and surfaces and may remain for up to a year in carpets. (Nishioka, M., et al. 1996. “Measuring lawn transport of lawn-applied herbicide acids from turf...” Env Science Technology, 30:3313-3320; Nishioka, M., et al. 2001. “Distribution of 2,4-D in Air and on Surfaces Inside Residences...”Environmental Health Perspectives 109(11). More conclusive is the proof that 2,4-D falls into a class of compounds called endocrine-disrupting chemicals, compounds that mimic or inhibit the body's hormones. Laboratory studies suggest that 2,4-D can impede the normal action of estrogen, androgen, and most conclusively, thyroid hormones. Dozens of epidemiological, animal, and laboratory studies have shown a link between 2,4-D and thyroid disorders. "That's really important when we're thinking about development," says Kristi Pullen, a staff scientist in NRDC's Health program. "Our thyroid works to ensure the proper timing and development of the brain." Also alarming, the interactions between the many chemicals being sprayed near our homes and in our parks are unknown. According to David Bellinger, professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, “Impacts from multiple chemicals may simply add up, amplify one another's effects.” This issue affects every person and pet in Wilsonville. We are asking Wilsonville's City Council, School Board, and Villebois Arbor HOA landscaping company leaders to immediately stop the use of all toxic pesticides and switch to proven and safer landscaping methods. You can find this information on our partners website  www.nontoxicIrvine.org Harvard University, City of Irvine, CA, The Irvine Unified School District all have successfully switched to organic landscaping practices. Other Cities/Counties across the U.S. such as Carlsbad, CA, Portland, ME, Dover, NH and Marin County, CA are banning the use of toxic pesticides and we would like to see Wilsonville join in this endeavor. The City of Irvine has demonstrated you can have beautiful parks, playing fields and lawns that meet community expectations without the use of toxic pesticides.  Please sign this petition to tell the leaders of these organizations that you want them to stop allowing these toxic landscaping practices. It should be a basic human right for a child to play in a park and not be exposed to toxic pesticides. Today there are so many proven and cost-effective options that will not harm our children, pets and our environment. Here are the health and environmental effects of the 30 most common pesticides. https://www.beyondpesticides.org/assets/media/documents/Health%20Effects%2030%20Lawn%20Pesticides.pdf https://www.beyondpesticides.org/assets/media/documents/Health%20Effects%2030%20Lawn%20Pesticides.pdf  For more information, please visit our partner's website – www.nontoxicirvine.org P.S. Please watch this video, Little Things Matter, to learn how toxins damage the developing brain. Thanks, Katie, Kristal, Mary, Simon, Courtney and the rest of us at Non Toxic Wilsonville.

To prevent Arshid Hussain applying for parental rights

ProblemArshid Hussain, who was jailed for 35 years in 2016 after being convicted of 23 child sex offences, was told by Rotherham Council that he could seek visits from the child, The Times claims.SolutionLaw's need to be changed to continue to protect the victims and any children that are conceived through rape. Longer sentencing is also required.Personal storyI work in Children's Sexual Exploitation services our role is to try and stabilize the victims when they come in to our care , provide therapy and most importantly make them feel safe. The horrendous damage we are seeing and experiencing in the young people is absolutely devastating. Maybe if these professionals were working with the young people each day and seeing the extent of the Trauma their views may differ. I hope by setting up this campaign we can help to change the law and ensure no further damage is experienced by the victims.

Applying for post-completion OPT from abroad

When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in late March, many students found themselves rushing to return to their home countries in fears of being stuck in the US away from their families in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic.  I was a senior at UCLA and in early March I left Los Angeles to return to Italy. My family was in northern Italy, where COVID-19 was claiming hundreds of lives every day and I felt I had to return home to be with them. Flights were getting cancelled and I left in a rush fearing that there would be no more flights to get me home. I rushed to the airport not thinking to check the temporary work visa (Optional Practical Training) application requirements before leaving. Once I got home and settled I started preparing to submit the OPT application and realized I could not submit it from outside the US. At that point the US had already closed its borders and F-1 visa students like me were no longer allowed back into the country. I reached out to every possible agency as well as my University to figure out a way to return and apply for my work visa, but they all told me it was impossible and I should just wait it out. I've been waiting it our for 5 months and nothing has changed yet.  Many graduating international students found themselves in a situation similar to mine and are now unable to return to the US. When we left we had no idea of how the situation was going to evolve and we had no way of predicting that we would be barred from entering the US for so many months. Thinking that we would be able to come back by late summer, many of us did not submit a temporary work permit application before leaving. Because OPT applications can only be submitted while physically in the US, many international students have been unable to submit an application. Moreover, USCIS only allows students to submit a temporary work visa application within 60 days of graduation. This means that most international 2020 graduates (who got their degrees in May/June) have lost their opportunity to work in the US. The goal of this petition is to request an extension to the 60-day post-graduation deadline for the OPT application and to demand that international students be allowed to apply from their home country.  International students all over the country have worked incredibly hard for their degrees and deserve a fair chance to get the temporary work visa that they were promised. COVID-19 has disrupted everyone's plans and it's only fair that the relevant governmental entities take action to ensure we don't get penalized for something that we had no control over.

Maryland Carry Laws Prevent Citizens From Legally Protecting Themselves

The headline says it all! Maryland carry permit laws prevent the average citizen from legally protecting themselves. The residents of Maryland need to come together and make a change, we need to make Maryland a safer state to live, by allowing law abiding citizens to carry out the right to legally protect themselves. While we shouldn't change the law in response to the terror attacks in Paris, by denying Maryland citizens the ability to lawfully defend themselves, such a tragedy could occur here unabated until a response arrives. The crime rate in this state will drop, and people won't have to worry about getting robbed while simply walking down the street at night. Let's all come together and try to show our elected officials that we, as residents, deserve the right to protect ourselves. Thanks for your support.

Open Specific Types of Dog Training Businesses Applying Social Distancing Standards

I would like to make you aware of the plight of the small business owner known as the dog training facility owners. These owners own or rent facilities that are often in excess of 10,000 square feet. Most of them did not qualify for SBA PPP programs because they don't often have many employess, they usually rent their facilities by the hour to other trainers who teach classes. A class size is anywhere from 4 to 8 students. Other situations may just involve the instructor and one student, this is known as a private lesson. Another use for these facilities is the ring rental, where a person rents the facility for 1/2 an hour or an hour at a time. Recently and ongoing our agility dog sports community has come together to create fundraisers for these facilities to assist them with paying their mortgage or rent, which often exceeds $7000. These businesses exist, not to make the profits of BIG BUSINESS, but rather to allow those who are passionate about their dog sport an outlet for recreation. We, the students of such facilities, come from all walks of life, medical, law, sales, labor and students. We come together for the love of our various dogs sports. The owners of said facilities make sure we have clean and safe places to practice, but this pandemic is breaking them. This is a cash poor business due to so many moving pieces. Each facility collects its tuition or payment from instructors on a monthly basis which they use to pay for their bills. The shutdown has devastated them. I would like to propose that these are businesses where social distancing inside could be practiced. A facility owner could do a private lesson or limit class sizes to a number where everone can be 6 plus feet apart. Please don't allow these owners to suffer, help them by easing restrictions on their businesses by allowing them to operarte under the spirit of social distancing. I am attaching websites of these types of businesses so you can see how large and spacious they are, some of them even operate outside. https://www.agilityatthefarm.comhttps://www.whosaluckydog.com/index.htmlhttps://wagagility.com/http://www.forestcitydog.com/http://www.rushnaround.com/https://foryourk9.com/https://advancesinanimalbehavior.com/http://www.dashk9sports.com/ Just like you allowed dog groomers to open, please consider allowing these facilities to have a choice in whether they open

Promote literacy and the local economy by not applying the full 15% HST on printed books

Along with many other cultural organizations, The Atlantic Independent Booksellers' Association is concerned that changing the tax on printed books from 5% to 15% would be detrimental not only to our bookstores and publishers but to the larger issue of literacy in our province. With books less available to all, reading levels would be negatively impacted and employment opportunities weakened. Whereas most jurisdictions in the world have a favourable policy concerning the taxation of printed material, Nova Scotia would set an unfortunate Canadian precedent in fully taxing books if the HST rebate were lifted. No other province does so. With as much broadly-based support as possible, we would like to convince our government of the benefits of maintaining the current taxation structure. It should be a goal for all of us to keep books as affordable as possible to encourage reading and to attract new Nova Scotians to a society that cherishes literacy.  Please sign our petition and spread the word. If inspired, write your MLA or contact the media to further voice your opinion..  To read the Nova Scotia Tax and Regulatory Review in which this change is proposed, follow this link and find page 27 under the 'HST' heading: http://www.novascotia.ca/finance/docs/tr/Tax_and_Regulatory_Review_Nov_2014.pdf

Please support me in applying for Visa to Canada
