This is Day 10 since the NHS Board & Executive Director ( ED) Henny Venus abruptly dismissed general manager Shanika on Friday November 11th. Here's a quick update of events and daily on goings as described by volunteers who are on site daily and doing staff related duties.
- Shelter has been closed with a sign posted on the door at least 3 times in the past 10 days
- two calls for volunteers to do staff related duties has gone out
- staff are working over time and being left unsupported at the shelter. reports of one lone staff member attending all the animal care needs while ED and board member sit in office.
- multiple community partners have pulled support after the actions of the board and executive director
- no communication to the community from the board or ED
- the board has not shared any plan to restructure the organization, nor to our knowledge included the community or sought community input regarding this new NHS.
- there are are concerns over the fact that emails are not being answered, membership inquiries are not being returned, applications are not being checked and fosters are upset that they are not receiving any communication from NHS.
- there has been no job postings ( that can be easily found) for the position of reception or general manager
- an unhealthy and unsupportive work environment is proving to be a barrier to finding and keeping a consistent team.
Two animal care attendants could be paid a full time living wage for the cost of the Executive Director, that under his guidance appears to have seen the NHS decline rapidly.
The staff, the volunteers, the foster homes, the community partners, many NHS stakeholders and the community at large are calling for action.
