A bit about the cause

Wow! After only 4 days, we have gathered over 500 signatures to show support of allowing mini pigs as pets within the city limits. I cannot tell you enough how grateful I am for everyone's support.

I wanted to take a moment to provide a little more information about why this cause is so important to me, so that anyone who is apprehensive of living next door to a pig might see why there is no cause for concern. If you've come across this petition and have any doubts at all about its viability, I hope this helps to give you some perspective. 

Groot and Tinypig are 3-year-old American Mini Pigs. They have lived with me in my home in the City of Wooster since they were 8 weeks old. They live primarily indoors, but they have access to my fenced-in back yard whenever they please. Not long ago, a neighbor approached the fence to ask me a question and was surprised to see Groot in the yard behind me. She was even more surprised when I told her that I actually have two! This neighbor has lived beside these pigs for 3 years and never even knew that they existed before she physically saw them. 

My boys love blankets, sleeping, snuggling on the couch, and sunbathing in the yard. Groot loves belly rubs and spins in circles for treats. Tinypig is shy, and though he is afraid of most people, he has a special trust for me his human mama. As far as our daily lives go, they are no different from my two dogs, who also live here. They all use the doggy doors to go outside, they all use the same beds and compete for space with Mom on the couch, and they all have their own temperaments and personalities. 

Provided proper care and a responsible owner, there is no reason that a mini pig should be considered any different from a dog. These animals love their owners, and their owners love them. There are no reasonable concerns about having them on residential property that do not also apply to any other household pet.
