What most offends people’s natural sense of justice and under-standing of right and wrong are psychiatric efforts to downplay even crimes against children.Consider the advice of clinical professor of child psychiatry, Richard Gardner, who was quoted in a 1999 Washington, D.C. Insight news magazine, saying, “Society’s excessively moralis-tic and punitive reactions toward pedophiles …go far beyond what I consider to be the gravity of the crime.” Gardner proposed that pedophilia serves procreative purposes.
