Dear supporter I am sure you share my disappointment at the response issued by Vince Cable to our petition earlier today; however, I must clarify that Vince was not present at last week's top-level meeting those of us spearing-heading the campaign had with HMRC, HMT and David Gauke MP. Last week’s meeting was extremely positive and those of us who attended still believe that the senior decision-makers in that room left the meeting committed to finding practical, workable solutions. We have to conclude, from today’s petition response, that Mr Cable hasn't yet been debriefed on the meeting which only took place on Thursday. Had he been aware of the full facts, we are sure his response would have been quite different. As such, we are now working with his team to help bring him up-to-date so he can give a more qualified response, as a matter of urgency. We are also asking his team for a meeting with him, so he can champion the cause of the smallest businesses and newest innovators, for whom this new legislation will be most crippling - we will update you as soon as we know more. In the meantime, please do continue to email/tweet him to help him to realise how many of us will be affected and please do keep writing to your MP and MEPs too. Every letter really does count and where initially some MPs/MEPs were not forthcoming in supporting our cause, we are now getting reports of more of them waking up to the seriousness of the matter and taking positive action. So it’s still very much a case of the more noise we can make the better at this stage! Thanks again for your support! Issy
