It is coming up to 4 years since this #girlswearpantstoo petition was launched!
My team and I at Girls' Uniform Agenda (GUA), have certainly been making progress on school uniform policies around Australia.
The Education Department in each state and territory now have policies that require girls to be offered the choice of pants and shorts at school. Some policies are better than others in their wording, but all have it stated in some shape or form. School compliance with the policy can be variable so make sure you reach out to enquiries@girlsuniformagenda.org if you are having ongoing issues. Sadly these government policies only cover public schools.
Independent schools still require our attention and GUA has developed a uniform change handbook to help girls and their families navigate getting uniform options at their school. View it here: http://girlsuniformagenda.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/v4_Booklet-for-website-outlining-what-people-can-do.pdf
Along with my co-founder Dr Amanda Mergler and our 12 GUA representatives around the country, we are still working towards our goal to make sure that ALL girls in ALL schools have the choice of pants and shorts at school EVERY day.
