Councillor Rebecca Bligh has advised me that she has spoken to VPD and asked for more enforcement as a temporary solution. I explained to her that increased enforcement will have no impact unless it is regular, and speed traps are at the crosswalk (where I have been doing my speed traps). I explained that whenever we have asked for increased enforcement in the past, what we got was very limited. I also explained that I have never seen a VPD speed trap at this crosswalk, but I have been told they are blocks away from the crosswalk.

It doesn’t look like Councillor Bligh is going to go back to VPD and ask for more regular and better enforcement. She seems happy with this response she received from them: “As you can expect we field many speed complaints from the public and it’s a matter of balancing our resources towards complaints vs. known high accident locations.  In short, there has been previous targeted enforcement in the area back in February and this will continue next week as well.”. So, the VPD is basically saying “We’ll put up a couple speeds traps a few blocks away from the school for 1 week, and that useless sign will go up for another 2 weeks and then be removed, and that’s all we’re going to do”.

If you would like to have regular VPD speed enforcement, with speed traps at the crosswalk to catch the highest number of speeders, then please email Councillor Bligh (CLRbligh@vancouver.ca) and let her know.
